Two file to run for mayor, four for city council

The Glen Rose mayoral and city council elections heated up Friday as three candidates filed to run for mayor and four for two seats on the city council.

Filing applications to run for mayor by the 5 p.m. Friday deadline were Eric Stepp Belanger, an employee of Chalk Mountain Services and former Nemo resident, and incumbent city councilman and pastor Dennis Moore.

On candidate applications, Belanger listed his residency in Glen Rose as one year, while Moore listed his as 23 years and five months.

The candidates who applied to run for two open council positions are RV park owner and Glen Rose Economic Develop Corp. member Danny Chambers, a 52-year resident; veterinarian Mike Jones, who listed his residency in the city limits as one year and three months; former council member Sue Oldenburg, who said she has been a resident for five years and six months;  and Laverne West, clients benefits coordinator for Pecan Valley Centers for Behavioral and Developmental Health and a resident of Glen Rose for 14 years.

The election will be held May 11.
