Monday, Aug. 5

* All football, volleyball and cross country  practices begin. Go Tigers!

* Glen Rose United Methodist Church pre-school open house, 6 to 8 p.m. Classes for children 3 to 5 years old are available. With a new format, new look and certified teachers, Lindsay Treadaway and Jeanne Ferren will begin classes that run from 9 a.m .to 2:30 p.m. with before and after extended care available for an additional fee. Monday through Fridays, Tuesday-Thursday or Monday/Wednesday/Friday schedules available.

Native Plant Society of Texas monthly meeting, 6:30 p.m., Somervell County Citizens Center

Manon Shockey, instructor of floriculture, plant propagation, greenhouse and nursery management, greenhouse crop production, retail horticulture and horticultural design at Tarleton State University, will present a program on “Sustainable Horticulture Using Native and Adaptive Plants.”

Thursday, Aug. 8

Ribbon cutting for new chamber member, Glen Rose Family Chiropractic, at 6 p.m. Located in Lee Chiropractic next to Subway. Meet Dr. Jennifer Cullen. Open house with refreshments and door prizes from 4 to 9 p.m. Dr. Cullen offers “affordable prices for every budget.” Call 254-897-2099.

Friday, Aug. 9

Somervell County Citizens Center Country & Western Concert & Dance, 7 to 9:30 p.m. $5 per person. This week the Michael Cote band plays.

Saturday, Aug. 10

* Donation car wash for First United Methodist Church youth, from 10 a.m. to 4 p.m. in the parking lot of the Family Center. Credit cards welcome.

143* The Somervell County Cancer Support Group will hold its annual fundraiser  from 6 to 11 p.m. at the Somervell County Expo Center.

A donation will serve as admission. Activities for the while family include music by 3 Rivers Shine, a cake and gift walk, raffles and a silent auction. Food and cold drinks also will be available for purchase.
