The threat that caused graduation to be delayed and relocated on the Tarleton State University campus Saturday afternoon has been eliminated, a university official said.

Police shut down the Wisdom Gym building shortly before noon after a suspicious object was found inside the women’s restroom. Commencement exercises were scheduled to take place at the gym. The ceremonies were moved to Memorial Stadium and were delayed about a half an hour.

Police have not disclosed details about the object. It was discovered around noon on Saturday – and a campus-wide alert issued.

“The building has been secured,” said university vice president Rickey E. Richardson. “It’s all clear. Our security forces have gone through the building.”

The threat came one day after a gunman killed 26 people at an elementary school in Connecticut.

“After you saw what happened in Connecticut yesterday, you wouldn’t take something like this lightly,” said Breezey Clark, a  campus recreational center employee.

Police and firefighters from Stephenville also responded to the threat. A spokesman for the fire department said his officers assisted in securing the gym after the threat was discovered.

I was there shortly after noon for a friend’s graduation. I thought the University handled the situation well and was quick in finding an alternative place for the gradution.
