Randy Mac’s Livin’ It Up: Want to hear some juicy gossip?

When I was a kid we’d sometimes play a game called “gossip.”  A group of us would sit in a circle, and someone would start by whispering a short story or scenario to the person next to them. The story was passed around the circle and after everyone had heard the story, the final “take” was compared to the original. It was always amusing how the story got edited as it was passed around.

Then we grew up and learned that “gossip” isn’t just a game. It happens in real life and many times causes problems. Folks hear the edited version of a story, then pass it on to their friends, often with a bit of editing of their own. Soon the “word on the street” is nowhere near the original story.

It even happens in Glen Rose. And thus, the direction of THIS installment!

Many know that I have been blessed with a wonderful Christian lady in my life. Actually, Julie and I first met almost 27 years ago in the small town of Haskell, Texas. When Robbie, the kids and I moved there for our first full-time ministry position, Kevin and Julie Walker were serving as youth ministers in another church in town.

Kevin and I became friends and did many youth camps together. I knew who Julie was, but rarely saw her and never really shared an in-depth conversation. At camps Kevin and I would be on the stage and Julie served as a sponsor for the girls from their church. Kevin and Julie left Haskell in 1989.

The next time I saw Kevin was in 1999 when he was serving as worship pastor at Pantego Bible in Arlington. (Julie wasn’t there that day.)

That would also be the LAST time I would see Kevin. The Walkers moved to Monument, Colo., six years ago and Kevin started a new ministry there.  Shortly thereafter, Kevin was diagnosed with cancer. He passed away exactly nine months before Robbie.

A year and five months ago, God allowed Julie and my paths to cross again after 24 years! Our relationship has flourished. We will be married in September and are looking forward to living life and serving the Lord together.

In late April I announced to our Cornerstone Christian Fellowship family that Julie and I will be here until late fall. Most likely we will relocate to Monument in November and no later than the end of the year.

Here are the facts we want folks here in Glen Rose to know:

CORNERSTONE IS NOT CLOSING ITS DOORS!

NO ONE HAS BEEN DESIGNATED TO ASSUME THE PASTOR-POSITION!  (During our 10-year history, Tommy McCool has usually filled in for me in my absence, but does NOT feel led to pastor the church.)

The Cornerstone Leadership Team is leading in a strong, positive way as the active members of Cornerstone pray and seek God’s direction, knowing He DOES have a plan!

Life’s an adventure. I hope YOU are livin’ it up!!!
