Randy Mac’s Livin’ It Up: Lessons from the laundry

I’ve been washing clothes a long time. I’ve always been an early riser, so when Robbie and I first married and lived in an apartment, I learned that not many of our neighbors used the laundry mat at five in the morning.

It never was a challenge to find an empty washer and dryer at that time. I could have our clothes washed, dried, and folded, have plenty of coffee in me and be caught up on the news by 6:30.

A few weeks ago I was in need of some laundry detergent. I usually get the liquid stuff. This time, however, my attention was drawn to some of the new-fangled “Tide” detergent “pod.” Perhaps it was the pretty colors.  Bands of blue, orange, and white — encompassed in a plastic-looking cover, which, of course, dissolves quickly when contacted by water.

I bought a bucket of ‘em. And they work real well.

One day last week I went out into my utility room to fire off a load of laundry. I noticed there were only about 10 or so pods left in the bucket. I also noticed that one pod had obviously developed a leak. There was a small layer of soap on the bottom of the bucket, and the remaining pods were coated with soap.

My brain shorted out, and I learned two things that day:

One — It’s not a wise thing to rinse those water-soluble pods with water.

Two — You can’t dry ‘em off with a towel.

Life’s an adventure. I’m livin’ it up!

Special Notice!  I appreciate the kind words of encouragement many of you have spoken to me in regards to my ramblings here.  My great friend and Christian author, Robert Noland, and I have been working on a book together.  It will feature several of my crazy stories, and Robert is writing some wonderful devotional thoughts. Robert anticipates the book will be available sometime this summer or early fall.  I am assembling a list of folks who have expressed to me that they would like to know when the book is available.  If you would like to be added to that list, please e-mail me at randymac@randymac.com.  I will keep you posted!
