Danny Pelton, a member of the State Republican Executive Committee who has served as Erath County Republican Party chairman, plans to announce his candidacy for state representative on Aug. 1.

He has chosen to make the first official announcement in Glen Rose at 9 a.m. at the Somervell County Citizens Center, according to the Somervell County Republican Party.

The state representative for District 59, which includes Somervell County, currently is Republican J.D. Sheffield, who was elected last November after defeating longtime legislator Sid Miller. Representatives serve two years in the state house.

Pelton also has served as a precinct chair in Erath County. During his tenure as county party chairman, Erath County became totally “red” with no officials elected from the Democratic Party.

Pelton currently serves as the elected committeeman for State Senate District 30 on the State Republican Executive Committee.

Anyone who would like to attend the event is welcome.
