Letter to the Editor: Paul Harper responds to ‘verbal attacks’ about hospital district dissolution petition

accesories-text-editor-hiI don’t take your verbal attacks personally, Cathy Hankins, sticks and stones! You can attack me and  the people that sign the petition all you like, it won’t stop us from pursuing our goal to eliminate the new property tax!  Quit trying to scare people…like with your “definitely be a large increase in county taxes,” which has no fact to it.

The county commissioners have NOT said they will increase taxes but they did say they would keep the hospital open, but probably with reduced services. They declined to raise taxes last year but you somehow think they will “definitely” do it now, give us all a break with the scare tactics.  It is not the county commissioners’ fault that the hospital is in dire straits like you are trying to imply, it is those that manage the hospital…that’s actually who should be blamed.

If Pecan Plantation is so profitable, why can’t the hospital finance themselves? Because the hospital leaders want something they cannot afford but are willing to stick the taxpayers with the difference instead of cutting back to what is financially doable with the income they have like most people have to do with their own budgets.

Don’t let Cathy Hankins or others scare you, sign the petition and let’s eliminate the new property tax! Let’s put some responsible elected folks like the county commissioners in charge of the hospital instead of an appointed board!

    Mr. Condy
I think you are miss informed and you must be part of the Methodist Mafia , because of how miss informed you are. Our Hospital has an level 4 ER that means 1 NO HAEART ISSUES ECT.
You should rethink your misinformed position !Our ambulance staff have to divert to other Hospitals in the above conditions ,

Our Aged population are against the district and are apprehensive as to how they are going to “fix” the Glen Rose Medical Center.

Where and what are the FACTS undisputably proving the allegation that the GRMC is mismanaged? Not inuendo, not rumor, not small town ‘chatter’, not personal bias, etc., but the HARD COLD OPERATIONAL FACTS. Keeping the same people is NOT proof of mismanagemet, personal dislike of a GRMC employee or associate is NOT proof, failing to operate within budget because of the failure and/or unpredictability of state/federal government to reimburse the hospital is NOT proof of mismanagement.

Think of the large elderly segment of the community requiring routine or emergency medical attention. Think of the large number of school kids playing all kinds of sports and getting injured. Think of the women in the community. Think of the 1,000+ power station staff, the builders and the ranchers in our community who need medical services. And lastly, think of the enormous numbers of tourists, campers and rodeo competitors in and around Glen Rose almost every day, some of whom need urgent medical attention almost on a daily basis.

Losing parts or all of the present GRMC, for whatever reason, would be an economic, social and lifestyle disaster for Glen Rose and its community. And that would be an enormous case of mismanagemet of the community, by the community.

@Clancy, my agenda is the same as everyone else’s signing this petition, to eliminate the new property tax. There is no hidden agenda no matter who rumors what, if I have an agenda I tend to let folks know what it is, it’s not hidden, and I am usually pretty vocal about whatever that agenda may be.

The problem with your argument is that they keep the same people running it doing things the same way no matter if it is a hospital district or a hospital authority, they have been as long as I have lived here. The new ceo is not new to the facility so nothing is different.

Why hasn’t the hospital been able to operate within their budget? Why should I send them more money to mismanage? Mr Reynolds said that Pecan Plantation pays more than 50% of the hospital income then Mr Reynolds needs to put a hospital in Pecan Plantation. Why doesn’t the hospital have an open forum meeting to show and prove their facts and figures on profits and losses? If I ran my household budget the way Mr Reynolds runs the hospital budget, I’d be homeless on the street. I think it would constructive for both sides to attend a meeting to discuss both sides in a public forum. I do not think that a church is an appropriate place for such a meeting.

Paul, is your issue the fact that your taxes will go up by a few dollars per month? Do you not recognize the inherent benefits that Glen Rose will have by maintaining its own hospital district, ran by professionals and not the randomly elected official? Your staunch opposition leaves one to wonder what your true agenda is.
