Glen Rose’s annual 4th of July celebration is an old-fashioned display of patriotism and pageantry that attracts hundreds of residents and visitors for good reason.

The jam-packed schedule of events blasts off with a 20-minute fireworks show at Wheeler Branch Reservoir Thursday evening. The explosions of light and color in the sky will be synchronized with patriotic and popular music celebration America’s independence. This year you can tune in to 93.5 FM to hear the music.

Check out the official schedule of events for all the details.

The patriotic spirit continues the morning of July 4 with the annual American Legion pancake breakfast Friday at 7 a.m. at the Somervell County Citizens Center. Share a meal with local veterans, eat all the pancakes you want for $5 and help support the post’s biggest annual fundraising event.

Throngs of people line Barnard Street early for the annual parade that begins at 9 a.m. It’s a family-friendly tradition with floats, fire trucks, vintage cars, horses, tractors and the guests of honor – veterans.

This year three generations of the Jones family will carry the American and Texas flags during the parade – Hank Jones, sons Ray Jones and Hank Jones Jr. and grandson Ray Jones Jr.

The fun continues afterward with the Optimists Club’s Cow Patty Bingo to raise money for scholarships, hot dogs and picnicking around the courthouse square, a performance by the Community Choir and more activities at Oakdale Park.

Wrapping up the multi-day celebration is the return of After Hours on the Square Saturday when retail stores will be open from 5 to 8 p.m. with food and specials.

It’s no wonder Glen Rose puts on one of the best Fourth of July celebrations in Texas. We’ll see you there!
