Special to the Current

Due to a late night fire on Monday, the Fossil Rim Wildlife Center Nature Store will be closed until further notice.

The store was in the same complex at the “overlook” area where the cafe, children’s educational center and picnic tables are located.

The fire started around 9 p.m. Monday night.

“The Somervell County Fire Department was out here in no time,” Fossil Rim posted on its Facebook page. “We are so grateful for the firemen and women and the hard work that was put into stopping the fire. Thank you for all your support.”

The cause of the fire remains unknown at this time.

The wildlife center remains open. A small gift  located at the front gate in our admissions office also is open and the center said it is working on a temporary solution for a gift shop at the “overlook” area.

“While we are very grateful for many people offering to help clean up the site, we are unable to accept volunteer help at this time because investigations and assessments are taking place,” Fossil Rim said in a prepared statement.

The center added it will provide updates throughout the next few days. More information will be posted on Fossil Rim’s Facebook page.

Donations by check can be sent to Fossil Rim Wildlife Center, 2155 County Road 2008, Glen Rose, Texas 76043, or directly through the center’s website at http://www.fossilrim.org.
