Innovation-With-Todays-TechnologyThe first phase of the “Envision Somervell County” economic development initiative continues Thursday, Aug. 21.

The discussion time goes from 10 a.m. to noon, with lunch following at Still Water Lodge. The meeting is open to all who are interested in helping to plan the future in Somervell County.

Please RSVP to 254-897-9228.

More than 50 people attended last month’s initial planning meeting. The economic development initiative was spearheaded by the Glen Rose/Somervell County Chamber of Commerce and 20 investors who have been meeting this year to discuss ways to develop the local economy.

Wes Jurey and The Center for Innovation, a nonprofit technology-driven economic development corporation based in Arlington, have been hired to help guide the process from ideas to a plan of action.

During the morning session, those attending again will gather in groups and fine tune the issues that participants identified at the July meeting.

The economic competitiveness group led by Glen Rose Convention & Visitors Bureau Director Nichole Belford will continue to focus on tourism, industry, supplier development and regulatory environment.

The group looking a maintaining a competitive workforce, led by businesswoman Marilyn Phillips, is examining three major issues: public education, higher education and workforce development.

Community redevelopment, led by attorney K.C. Shane, will continue to address the issues of neighborhood/sectors, housing and downtown.

Infrastructure, led by High Hope Ranch’s Chandler McClay, will again discuss transportation/mobility, water and environment, telecommunications and energy.

Quality of life was the last issue. This group was led by gym owner Radonna Goetz and Glen Rose Medical Center Director of Public Relations and Community Education Ashley Woodley. They will focus on healthcare, public safety, arts and public space.

There is room for more people to join in and give their input to all of these issues, or just come hear the discussions.
