Council to consider adding water slides to river, economic development agreements

Installing water slides on the Paluxy River and entering economic development agreements with two businesses are among the items on the Glen Rose City Council’s Monday meeting agenda.

The water slides would be placed on the Paluxy River adjacent to Heritage Park.

The council also plans to go into executive, or closed, session to discuss and approve so-called “380 agreements” to attract businesses to relocate and expand in Glen Rose.

In 2006 the Texas Legislature enacted Chapter 380 of the Texas Local Government Code to allow Texas cities to provide assistance for economic development. That assistance could include monies, loans, city personnel and city services, such as providing water or wastewater service. Any such assistance provided must stimulate business and commercial activity.

The business agreements to be discussed and possibly approved are one related to MesaTech, a company in the county’s industrial park that wants to expand and add jobs, and another one related to the possible opening of a new Glen Rose store by Rountree, an appliance, electronics and mattress retailer that currently operates stores in Clifton and Hamilton.

If the agreement goes forward, Rountree expects to locate its store in the metal building that previously housed the Dollar General store across from Brookshire’s.

The meeting begins at 5:30 p.m. at Town Hall.
