Special to the Current

Hopefully, everyone is saving their pennies and spare change for our big fundraiser next month. The penny auction will be on Saturday, Aug. 16, and you won’t want to miss it.

Since we were closed Friday for Independence Day, our Swap & Shop will be on Friday, June 11, as it is the first Friday of the month that we will be open. (It was mistakenly listed as the 6th in a previous article.)

Our next dance will be this Friday, July 11featuring C. B. Sutton. Doors open at 6 p.m. Admission is $5 at the door. Now serving snacks at intermission.

Don’t forget to join us next Tuesday, July 15, for bluegrass music and potluck supper. Bring your favorite dish and come sing along.

Family game night will be next Friday, July 18, from 6 to 9 p.m. Come play our games or bring your own. Everyone welcome!

Winners of last week’s Forty-Two tournament were: Royce Stacy and Clark Stewart in first place, Roy Mercer and James Kelley in second, Nancy Moore and Dortha Beck in third and there was a tie for fourth place between the teams of John Psencik and Marcy Copell and Loveda Swaim and Don Baker. Others playing in the tournament were: Pat Thompson and Billie Flanary, Roger Jordan and Zula Hunter and Janelle Gartrell and Ann Parham.

Activities at the Citizens Center beginning July 14 are: Walmart shopping trip, chess and bingo on Monday; bluegrass/potluck supper, Wii bowling and wood carvers on Tuesday; Forty-Two tournament, blood pressure testing by Lee Healthcare, Tim’s Tidbits and line dancing lessons on Wednesday; chess and David’s shopping on Thursday; game night, bingo and Brookshire’s shopping on Friday. Besides the scheduled activities, there are games, puzzles, quilting, Forty-Two and visiting going on every day.

If you know anyone who may need meals, transportation, an emergency response system, medical equipment, Food Stamp (SNAP), Medicaid or Somervell County Food Bank applications, utility assistance applications or any other senior-oriented services, please call or come by the center.

Remember that you don’t have to be a senior to come and enjoy all of our activities or eat lunch with us. Don’t forget to visit our website at www.glenrosesccoa.com for menus, activities, articles, links to other sites and lots of pictures, or “like” our Facebook page, “Somervell Citizens’ Center.” Our number is 254-897-2139.
