Special to the Current

We hope everyone had a wonderful Father’s Day with lots of family. We celebrated with root beer float punch and spicy cracker bundles for the dads.

img15Be sure and join us on the fourth Wednesday every month as we celebrate the birthdays for the month with music from Margie Hartsfield and pot roast, new potatoes, baby carrots and birthday cake!

Do you have Medicaid benefits? If you are a senior who is receiving Medicaid (with or without Medicare) you will soon have to choose a provider for your insurance coverage. We will be having someone from Texas Star Plus (the new Medicaid program) here on July 9 at 11:30 a.m. to help you sign up.

We have a temporary, part-time position in the kitchen available. Kitchen experience a plus. Please apply in person.

Our next dance will be Friday, June 27 featuring C. B. Sutton. Doors open at 6 p.m. Admission is $5 at the door. Now serving snacks at intermission.

Don’t forget to start saving your pennies and change for our big penny auction fundraiser in August.

Winners of last week’s bunco tournament were: Zula Hunter with the most buncos, Marcy Capell with the most wins and Betty Flanagan with the most losses. Others playing in the tournament were: Lois Wooley, Royce Stacy, Roger Jordan, Norma Wright, Ann Parham, Carole Kofke, Rosemary Cooper, Pat Thompson and Janet Stacy.

Activities at the Citizens Center beginning June 23 are: afternoon movie, chess and bingo on Monday; gospel music, Wii bowling and woodcarvers on Tuesday; bunco tournament, blood pressure checks by Glen Rose Nursing & Rehab, June birthday celebration and line dancing lessons on Wednesday; chess and David’s shopping on Thursday; and game night, bingo and Brookshire’s shopping on Friday. Besides the scheduled activities, there are games, puzzles, quilting, Forty-Two and visiting going on every day.

If you know anyone who may need meals, transportation, an emergency response system, medical equipment, food stamp (SNAP), Medicaid or Somervell County Food Bank applications, utility assistance applications or any other senior oriented services, please call or come by the center.

Remember that you don’t have to be a senior to come and enjoy all of our activities or eat lunch with us. Don’t forget to visit our website at www.glenrosesccoa.com for menus, activities, articles, links to other sites and lots of pictures, or “like” our Facebook page, “Somervell Citizens’ Center.” Our number is 254-897-2139.
