If you haven’t been by the center in a while, you should stop in and see what we’ve been doing with the rest of the building. We have moved our computers, library and are setting up an exercise room. It is a work in progress, but come check us out.

We will be celebrating Senior Citizen Day again this year with a luau. Dig out your Hawaiian shirts, flip flops, clam diggers and such and start limbering up for the Limbo! Senior Citizen Day is August 22. Stay tuned for details.

We are making plans this year to show our hometown pride during the football season. We are planning spirit Fridays, groups attending games, Hep Cat and homecoming activities and a homecoming dance. Get your Tiger gear ready because football season starts next month. Go Tigers!

We’ve received quite a few pictures from yesteryear of our seniors, so come out on Thursday and see if you can “guess who.”

Beginning in August, we will be moving Swap & Shop to the first Friday of the month. It will start at 8:30 a.m.

Our next movie will be Selena with Jennifer Lopez and Edward James Olmos about the life of the late Tejano superstar Selena Quintanilla.

Our next dance will be this Friday, July 26, featuring C. B. Sutton. The doors open at 6 p.m. for some meet-and-greet time, and the band starts at 7 p.m. There is a $5 admission at the door.

The winners of last week’s Forty-Two tournament were: Nancy Moore and Dortha Beck in first place, Loveda Swaim and Don Baker in second, Pat Thompson and Tamra Black in third and Billie Flanary and Marcy Capell in fourth. Others playing in the tournament were: Ann Parham and Wanda Elliff, Zula Hunter and Roger Jordan, Royce Stacy and Clark Stewart, John and Phyllis Psencik, Janelle Gartrell and Karena Eccles and James Kelly and Ila Verne Stull.

Activities at the Citizens Center beginning July 29 are: chess and bingo on Monday; woodcarvers and sewing/quilting on Tuesday; Forty-Two tournament, utility assistance and blood sugar screenings by Cherokee Rose Nursing Home on Wednesday; chess and David’s shopping trip on Thursday; and bingo and Brookshire’s shopping on Friday.

Besides the scheduled activities, there are games, puzzles, quilting, Forty-Two and visiting going on every day.

If you know anyone who may need meals, transportation, an emergency response system, medical equipment, Food Stamp (SNAP), Medicaid or Somervell County Food Bank applications, utility assistance applications or any other senior-oriented services, please call or come by the center.

Remember that you don’t have to be a senior to come and enjoy all of our activities or eat lunch with us.  Don’t forget to visit our website at www.glenrosesccoa.com for menus, activities, articles, links to other sites and lots of pictures, or “like” our Facebook page, “Somervell Citizens’ Center.” Our number is 254-897-2139.
