Last week we honored some local seniors at our 44th annual “Older Texan Awards” ceremony. This year’s recipients were: Lovell and Roxie Weedon, Fran and Charley Thomas and John and Ann Nail.

It’s hard to believe, but Father’s Day is upon us already. We will be having a little celebration in honor of all our senior fathers with some refreshments and some sort of homemade goodies for each of the fathers, as usual.

We have a temporary, part-time position in the kitchen available. Please apply in person.

Our next dance will be Friday, June 13, featuring Michael Cote. Doors open at 6 p.m. Admission is $5 at the door. Now serving snacks at intermission.

Don’t forget to start saving your pennies and change for our big penny auction fundraiser in August.

Winners of last week’s bunco tournament were: Marcy Capell with the most buncos, Jim Riley with the most wins and Roy Cooper with the most losses. Others playing in the tournament were: Betty Flanagan, Roger Jordan, Pat Thompson, Royce Stacy, Zula Hunter, Rosemary Cooper, Mary Riley, Ann Parham and Janet Stacy.

Activities at the Citizens Center beginning June 9 are: Walmart shopping trip, chess and bingo on Monday; RECAP meeting, afternoon movie, Wii bowling and woodcarvers on Tuesday; bunco tournament, blood sugar checks by Glen Rose Nursing & Rehab and line dancing lessons on Wednesday; chess and David’s shopping on Thursday ;and dance, Father’s Day celebration, bingo and Brookshire’s shopping on Friday. Besides the scheduled activities, there are games, puzzles, quilting, Forty-Two and visiting going on every day.

If you know anyone who may need meals, transportation, an emergency response system, medical equipment, Food Stamp (SNAP), Medicaid or Somervell County Food Bank applications, utility assistance applications or any other senior-oriented services, please call or come by the center.

Remember that you don’t have to be a senior to come and enjoy all of our activities or eat lunch with us. Don’t forget to visit our website at www.glenrosesccoa.com for menus, activities, articles, links to other sites and lots of pictures, or “like” our Facebook page, “Somervell Citizens’ Center.” Our number is 254-897-2139.
